MEET the team

Christine Thompson
Head of Department for Preparation for Life and Work. This encompasses a broad range of provision including: Foundation Learning for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Adult Skills for Life (Functional English and Maths), Education and training including Classroom Support Assistants, Initial Teacher Training and Higher Education.
This encompasses 16 - 18 provision as well as Adult learning, Apprenticeships and full time and part time courses.

Andrea Cochrane
Andrea is Course Leader for the Preparing for Employment Course, teaching a range of subjects at entry level and level 1

Barbara Moffat
Barbara is course leader on the Basic Skills for Life programme which promotes communication, self confident and independence.

Donna Sample
Administrator - I provide admin support to Chris Thompson, Head of Preparation for Life & Work.

Geoff McKnight
Geoff is one of three course tutors that teaches on Social and Vocational Skills. Geoff also teaches Level 2 Maths.

Heather Morgan
Heather is a Lecturer teaching students with learning difficulties/ disabilities and have been a Course tutor at TyneMet since starting in 1985.

Heidi Seager
Heidi is in charge of the students on the one year Broadening Horizons Course and teaches on other courses across the Foundation Department.

Jean Dodds
I am a Course tutor on the Personal Development Opportunities course year 1. I deliver a variety of sessions to give opportunities for learners to develop their personal and social skills to become more independent young adults.

Jennifer Dixon
I am the Assistant Team Leader for the Prince's Trust 12 Week Personal Development Programme. I assist in recruitment, selection and leading the team through their learning journey.

John MacDonald
I started teaching maths, statistics, photography and performing arts in FE in the eighties. Since then I have developed an increasing interest in working with people with learning difficulties and challenging behaviours. Until recently I was able to combine working with people with profound learning difficulties and multiple disabilities with some A level delivery but since reducing my contact hours I now work exclusively with students with SLD/PMLDD. I am also an advanced skills teacher, helping provide CPD opportunities, doing educational research and supporting colleagues as they develop learning skills.

Judith Evans
Judith is co-course tutor for Connect to FE teaching students across a range of subjects from Entry Level 1 to Entry Level 3

Julie Baxter
Julie is a course leader on the Certificate in Learning Skills course. This provision is designed specifically to meet the needs of learners on the autism spectrum. She is also a Staff Ambassador.

Kathryn Campbell
Kathryn is one of three Course Leaders for the Social and Vocational Skills Course, teaching a range of subjects at entry level.

Kevin Black
I am the Course Leader for the Prince's Trust 12 Week Personal Development Programme. It is my responsibility to recruit, select and lead the team through their learning journey.

Lesley Gibb
Lesley is co-course tutor for Connect to FE. Teaching a range of subjects at entry level.

Lindsay Edgar
Lindsay is a Course Tutor on the Opening Opportunities course and also teaches Communication skills one day a week on the Basic Skills for Life course. She also delivers the Edexcel Diploma in Personal Progress. She is a fully trained and qualified CALM practitioner.

Lisa Wilson
Lisa is a course leader on the Certificate in Learning Skills course. This provision is designed specifically to meet the needs of learners on the autism spectrum. Lisa also teaches on the CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools and provides Autism Awareness training for college staff and the wider community.

Lucy Morgan
Lucy is a Course Tutor for Opening Opportunities and teaches full time on this course. Lucy also delivers the Edexcel Diploma in Personal Progress and is a fully trained and qualified CALM practitioner.

Mick Sim
Mick is the full-time Course Leader for the Towards Independence courses. The primary focus for these courses it to develop communication skills, self-advocacy and to promote independence for learners with profound and multiple learning difficulties and or disabilities. His background in the telecommunications sector is exploited to provide opportunities for learners to access assistive and augmentative communication technologies in a very hands-on environment. He also has responsibility for overseeing the Quality Assurance processes for the whole of the department. Outside of the college, he is a commissioned officer in the Army Reserve, a Governor at Tyneview Primary School in Walker and a keen church bell ringer.

Penny Blackburn
My main role is as Course Tutor for Preparing for Employment. I also teach on other courses in the department and take the rambling enrichment option on a Friday afternoon (pioneering the infamous Tynemet Disco Bus). Apostrophes a speciality.

Sue Davison
Sue Davison manages the links between schools, employers and the Foundation Learning Department. She visits schools and parents and manages the assessments visits of new learners. She also organises up to 40 work placements every year with local businesses.

Susan Cervantes
Susan is Co-Course tutor Broadening Horizons teaching a range of subjects at Entry Level.
