Sports Facilities
Sport is the perfect release from studying—even for sports students! Luckily, here at TyneMet there are all sorts of opportunities to get moving and get those endorphins pumping.
The North East Sports Academy (NESA)
The North East Sports Academy (NESA) is one of TyneMet’s most prized assets and NESA students receive top professional coaching in men’s football, women’s football, rugby, basketball, netball, golf, badminton or hockey. Disabled athletes can take advantage of NESA’s new Wheelchair Basketball Development Centre. All TyneMet students on a full-time programme are entitled to up to 10 hours of high level coaching in their chosen sport at NESA. In addition to this NESA students also receive a sport specific strength and conditioning programme.
Sports partnerships
The college’s partnerships with external sports clubs and organisations are second to none. TyneMet's links with the Newcastle Eagles, Newcastle Falcons and Newcastle United Women’s FC create excellent opportunities for NESA students who gain use of professional facilities and access to the expertise of top coaches. In addition, NESA’s exclusive partnership with Team Northumbria and Northumbria University provide excellent sporting and academic progression routes for students.
Flex Fitness Gym
TyneMet’s Flex Fitness gym is well-equipped with modern cardiovascular equipment, resistance machines and free-weights. Strength and conditioning advice and personal training services are available and membership is offered to students at a significantly reduced price. Through Flex Fitness, the college runs numerous popular fitness classes including Boxercise, Tone & Stretch, Aerosculpt, Pilates, Hardcore Cardio and Army Circuits.
Opening times
Flex Fitness is open from 8:00am – 9:00pm Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 6:00pm on Saturdays and 9:00am – 1:00pm on Sundays.
The college also has two full size sports halls, a floodlit 7-a-side sand-based Astroturf pitch and access to numerous offsite facilities like Northumbria University’s Third Generation Astroturf pitch.
