English made easy
ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages
If English isn't your main language, ESOL classes can help you improve your English and get more out of life in the UK.
Each ESOL course is made up of three parts.
- Speaking and listening
- Reading
- Writing
You can start an ESOL course in either September or February and must complete all three parts before moving to the next level.
The ESOL community at TyneMet is very friendly and our teachers and other staff will provide you with lots of support throughout the course. You can also choose form different levels of learning to make sure you join the class you feel comfortable with.
When you have finished your course you will be invited to an Award Ceremony where you will be given a University of Cambridge ESOL certificate. This is a nationally recognised qualification which will help you work, study and live in the UK.
Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life (Level 2) has also been approved for use in Tier 1 applications (general Highly Skilled Migrants) in the UK's new points based system for non-EU nationals.
Our ESOL courses are free for most students. However some students may have to pay fees. Call 0191 229 5000 to find out whether you qualify for free classes.

“I've got two small children and I'm currently studying to be a classroom assistant. I thought this course would be perfect for me both personally and professionally. It's informative, practical and fun. ”
